WHEEL THROWING
BASICS FOR BEGINNERS

2.5 HOUR TASTER CLASS

In this hands-on pottery workshop, you'll master the foundational techniques of wheel throwing and create your very own ceramic pieces. During this engaging session, you'll learn how to transform raw clay into beautiful vessels, and if you wish you can choose two of your favourite creations to be professionally fired and glazed for you to treasure.

Working at your own wheel under expert guidance, you'll develop essential skills including:

- Centring clay confidently
- Opening and pulling walls with proper technique
- Creating basic forms with traditional methods
- Understanding the characteristics of clay

Our welcoming team ensures a relaxed, supportive environment perfect for complete beginners. You'll find that the rhythmic motion of the wheel and the tactile nature of clay quickly puts you at ease, making the learning process both natural and enjoyable.

This immersive activity introduces you to the deeply satisfying craft of pottery, helping you build both skills and confidence. You'll leave the class with practical knowledge of wheel throwing techniques and, once fired, two unique pieces that showcase your newfound skills.

Classes run Wed/Thurs evenings & 3 times daily on Saturdays and Sundays.

Our beautiful, brand new studio is in the heart of Manchester City centre. For those of you travelling from out of town, we are just a two minute walk from Picadilly train station.

Specialist, wheel aprons are provided however please wear clothing and footwear that you don't mind getting a bit of clay on. That way you can really go for it!

*please note: if you have long nails it can be a little trickier to throw.

MAY THE KILN GODS BE WITH YOU....

Sometimes, pieces may unfortunately crack, break, or not survive the kiln. This can be due to a number of factors - including moisture, air bubbles, thickness, or tension in the clay - especially for first-time wheel work.

If something you made is missing or damaged, it’s likely due to this part of the process. We completely understand how disappointing that can be, especially after putting in so much effort.

Please know that this is a normal part of working with ceramics, and even experienced potters lose pieces now and then. If you have any questions feel free to get in touch

***Please note: We will no longer offer collection pick ups of your pottery.

Classes booked in July will be sent by  Royal Mail with a small delivery cost which can be purchased in our studio after your class should you choose to keep your lovely pots

This is to reduce waste and save on storage
